DRR training course for young Diplomats

The UNDP Disaster Risk Management (DRM) project at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, organized a week long training course on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for more than 40 young Lebanese diplomats.
The training, which was conducted by international DRR experts, aimed at introducing the newly appointed diplomats to the international disaster response environment. Throughout this course, the diplomats were able to better understand the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the National Operation Room (NOR) for crisis management. They were also trained on supporting the NOR in case of a request of international assistance. The diplomats were also introduced to crisis management in foreign countries hosting Lebanese communities through practical exercises.
"The workshop was very fruitful and interesting," a participant said. "The first day provided us with in-depth knowledge of how MOFA should function in crisis mode. The second day was also very informative in terms of training on the reflex of how to turn into crisis mode at our diplomatic missions, what kind of means and logistics we should have and what pre-established set up should be put in place. Overall, the workshop was very important as it tackled an essential subject that we could be exposed to at any time or place. It would be beneficial if we could receive more workshops in the near future involving the same topic as many ideas and subjects remain to be addressed" the newly nominated diplomat added.
On the last day of the training, participants visited the NOR, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in the Grand Serail of Beirut, where they carried out a scenario-based practical exercise.
This project is implemented with the support of the SDC, the European Union, the German government, the government of The Netherlands, and the government of Kuwait.
